Nice to see the sunny weather back again and everything drying out. A good day to just kick back and wander around the town of Hokitika in the sun.
We found somewhere first to get some more of our business cards printed, now amended with the blogspot included. Hokitika is a sleepy little place full of Jade Factories and artistic type shops so we went in to one of the many Jade Factory shops to watch that happening in one of them. The jade carver said he had been doing it for thirty or so years and could just about do some of the designs in his sleep !
When asked whether Jade was becoming hard to get he reckoned that there was “heaps” still out there.
Cutting the Big Blocks
We also watched a talented rock painter painting little pictures on rocks of all sizes before going in and watching a local glassblower. There were some lovely glassware pieces on display.
A Craftsman at Work
Back to the Camp where as usual we solved the worlds problems and discussed caravan things with all and sundry ! Off tomorrow to Blackball – Why? Salamis, Sausages, Black Pudding, Bacon etc from the Blackball Salami Co. We will visit Greymouth with day trips back from there as the next stop after that will be Reefton which is an inland town.
