Down the Coast to Kaikoura

Pack up time this morning and off on the road to Kaikoura.
1st stop on the way was the Lake Grassmere salt works to see an impressive pile ofsalt harvested from the salt pans.

After a short stop we carried on further, stopping for a quick photo stop at St Oswalds church. This church was evidently built by Mr and Mrs Charles Murray as a memorial to their son Charles Hector Heaton Murray who was killed overseas.

Next photo stop was the old Seddon road/rail bridge still in use as a rail bridge but has long since been closed for road traffic.

A good ride along the coast with numerous seals on view on the way until arriving at the Ohau stream.   This stream is famous for the winter migration of seal pups upstream to a natural pool at the base of a nice waterfall .

A pleasant 10 minute walk, no sign of any wildlife today but plenty of rain .
Further on we stopped at Nins Bin roadside stall to buy a very expensive crayfish .  At those prices it will be a oncer!

We setup camp at the South Bay POP.   This POP is located at the Kaikoura Racecourse and  not far out from Kaikoura Village.   We went back to Kaikoura village for a fuel fill and look around the very tourist orientated shops before driving around to the point to see what Fyffe House looked like.   It was a very nice old home right out on the point but as Pauline found out the admission price was quite high for what it was.   Back to the caravan and our very tasty dinner followed by a walk with the others up to the whale watch depot and back.
